History and Curiosities of the Center of Sevilla

• One of the curiosities that tourists staying in a charming hotel can discover is the group of peculiar objects that are hung in the Patio de los Naranjos of the Cathedral. It consists of a crocodile, an elephant tusk, a giraffe bite, and a baton. These three objects were gifts from an Egyptian sultan to the King Alfonso X, who wanted the king’s daughter to marry his firstborn. The baton is the one that the Spanish monarch’s ambassador was sent with, and carried to African lands to decline the marriage.

It is worth it to visit the street Candilejo where there is a bust of King Pedro I, with a unique history behind it. One night, the king killed a member of the Guzmamens family, with an old lady as a witness. The authorities in charge of the case commanded that there would be order and justice, ordering that a bust of the head of the guilty be erected on this street, but it could not be revealed for some time.

Los miles de visitantes que anualmente llegan a la capital andaluza dispuestos a disfrutar de la Torre del Oro o de los Reales Alcázares apuestan en la mayor parte de las ocasiones por reservar alojamiento en un hotel del centro de Sevilla. ¿Por qué? Porque eso les permitirá conocer más a fondo el casco histórico, donde no sólo se encuentran los monumentos más significativos sino también multitud de curiosidades y leyendas. 

En concreto, es una manera perfecta para descubrir los encantos más singulares del casco histórico:

• El centro tiene el honor no sólo de ser uno de los más grandes de toda Europa sino también uno de los más valiosos artísticamente hablando, pues en él se encuentran edificaciones tales como el Archivo de Indias o la Giralda.
• Una de las curiosidades que podrá descubrir el turista que se hospede en un hotel con encanto en Sevilla es el conjunto de peculiares objetos que aparecen colgados en el Patio de los Naranjos de la Catedral. Se trata de un cocodrilo, un colmillo de elefante, el bocado de una jirafa y un bastón de mando. Concretamente los tres primeros fueron los presentes que un sultán egipcio regaló al rey Alfonso X, pues quería que la hija de este se casara con su primogénito. El bastón, por su parte, es el que portaba el embajador que el monarca español envió a tierras africanas para declinar la boda. 
• Merece la pena además visitar la calle Candilejo donde existe un busto del rey Pedro I con una singular historia detrás: aquel una noche asesinó a uno de los miembros de la familia de los Guzmanes, teniendo como único testigo a una anciana. La autoridad al frente del caso manifestó que haría justicia y ordenó colocar en una hornacina la cabeza del culpable, que no pudo ser desvelada hasta pasado un tiempo. Cabeza que no era otra que aquella mencionada escultura.
